'His Dark Materials -The golden compass-'
which is known as 'ライラの冒険 黄金の羅針盤' in Japan.

First, you should keep it in mind that Philip Pullman,the author of this book, is an British author.
This means, yes, this audiobook is spoken in British English!!

So, this audiobook is not so 'easy' one though it is classified as audible kids.
However, I strongly recommend to try this story if you like fantasies.
If you are not good at listening English, try the movie first then back to the audiobook.

The story of the book is great of course, but the audiobook itself is fantastic ;)
The narrator of the book is Philip Pullman himself and there involved around 20 casts in the book, so you can listen to the book as if you are listening the movie!

Narration by Philip Pullman is also great, I'm quite sure you will be caught up in the story.
The evaluation is very high as a whole.


Then, let's look into the story of 'the golden compass'.

The story is set in Oxford UK.
However, it is not 'our' Oxford, but Oxford in parallel world.
People live with their own 'daemons' which is his/hers own soul.

The heroine Lyra is an orphan, who is raised in Jordan collage,Oxford.
She is raised there in some reason.

Her life is changed when Mrs. Coulter showed up at the collage and her best friend Rodger kidnapped.
She leaves to North with Gyptians to get Rodger back and solve the mystery of the 'dust' with 'the golden compass' given by the master of Jordan collage.

Gyptians, armoured bears, witches...
She goes on her explorer with people not knowing she is leading her world and other parallel worlds in to a war and the destiny of the universe is in her hand...

Some of the details of the book are defferent from the movie, but the base line is almost the same.
You can listen to the details that are dropped out in the movie, so you can enjoy the world of Lyra more by listening the audiobook.

From the fact that the story is set in the parallel world, people live with his.her own daemons and together untill they die , you can feel a great imagination of Philip Pullman.
